if you haven't already, if you know people who haven't already please vote for my beautiful niece both today and tomorrow. She is currently in 4th place and while I know she is the most beautiful baby in the world... Mom and Dad would really enjoy seeing her at the number one spot... so here is the link and she is the #1 picture... don't be swayed by the other pictures of very cute kids... just think #1... in fact don't even look at the other picture's. don't be swayed. just vote #1
easy to remember really #1 for #1!
I arrived home last night at the right time, I tutor on Tuesday nights and don't get home until after 7pm, Dom had been watching election coverage for a few hours already and was excitedly running around the house. We had BBC America on as we like their news coverage and feel it's the least biased of the stations. We watched excitedly as results after results came in and then Ohio happened and we realized the Obama was indeed going to be our next president.
Before we knew it McCain was giving a gracious concession speech. Truly he was amazing and incredibly kind and I was reminded as to why I had a hard time deciding who to vote for in the beginning. Then I watched Obama's acceptance speech and was inspired as I heard crowds chant "Yes we can," and I saw the huge crowds there swelling in Grant Park and there was no distinction of race or religion but instead people united for our country.
Finally I went to bed pretty statisfied with the history I witnessed in the making. This morning I tuned to my favorite morning show, Gerry House the the House Foundation. It's a local radio show that gives great traffic info and I have always loved Gerry and Mike and Al and you get the idea. People were calling in to talk about the election and I was half awake and listening slightly amused but my heart began to fall.
First there was a lady who called in who is on opposite sides of her husband. He told their children this morning that the bad one won. Then a man called in who said it was wrong a musleim is now president. Then, and this is the one that really bothers me, a lady called in and proceeded to say that Obama shouldn't be president because it was not American because of his race and he was Godless. The host asked her for examples of Godlessness and she couldn't give any. I agree with Gerry when he said that makes him heart sick.
We are all in this together and we are only as good as our weakest players. Bush isn't just your president, he is mine as well. Obama won't just be my president, he will be our president. Lets pray, not that us Obama voters see the error of our ways, but instead that he is wise to surround himself with people that will challenge him, that the United States will remain and become more united and that we become a nation closer to peace.
