House Hunting Oh My!
Dominic and I went with our friend Chelsea yesterday to look at a few houses. We focused on the Portland area, it seems there you can get alot more house for your money and I generally like it also. There were a ton of kids out riding bikes, the downtown was pretty cute and it seemed like a pretty cool place.
We looked at about 6 houses, I'll explain the about here in a moment.
The first house we looked at was BEAUTIFUL and exactly what I like in a house. Older with plenty of character. Two complete bathrooms, appliances furnished, I mean everything right down to a great kitchen, which is great b/c we love to cook and tend to spend alot of time there. Huge master bathroom, his and her walk in closets. Giant jacuzzi garden tub. The downside was the unfinished upstairs and really it's only a one bedroom. If we do have kids... I don't know where they would get to sleep. But I loved this house and really would like to look there again.
The second was a great solid brick house. However, there is way too much work needed for the price. The carpet would have to be replaced before I would even be able to move in, major cat lovers apparently. The Kitchen was wonderful though with great cabinets but no appliances whatsoever. Also the deck outside needed some work, but it was beautiful and led down to where there had been an above ground pool. Also, someone had worked really hard on their painting in the house and not in a good way. But that is just cosmetic.
The thrid house I didn't get to look at, but apparently it was not good. I was already conjested from the previous house and on this one you could smell the cat from the front door. But not a problem, both Dom and Chels said it wasn't worth the price or what we were really looking for.
Fouth House was a cute more modern house. Loved the area it was in and it had a huge back yard. Giant front room windows that were nice. Great wood floor. It' had a cute kitchen, but I worry that it's not big enough for us. and there was a crack in the celing from where the addition was put in. But it's still on the maybe list. Maybe for a second view.
The Fith House was out there. It was a very sweet cottage on 1 1/2 acres of land. Dom really likes land, I don't care so much about that. However, it is too small for us now, I can't imagine how it would be once we have kids. The upside though it that there is plenty of land to expand on. So, it may be on the look again list.
The sixth house (we were tired by then as well) we pulled up to,... and didn't even look inside. The people living there were still there and thats just awkward. And the house didn't look anything like the picture. So even though it was 5 acres of land. We decided to bypass that one this time.
On the way back to portland we also drove past one I had read about and wanted to at least peer in the windows of. This is the one that broke my heart. An older colonial house that you can tell was beautiful but had been lived in hard and not taken care of at all. Uncared for houses make me really sad and this was one of those. Things were starting to sag that shouldn't and thats a sign of a house with deeper problems. Ah well, there are plenty more options on that front.
Okay, so boring post for you, BIG help for me to recap. I am still processing that we may actually get to be home owners. wow. I'm on my way to growing up. Very nice indeed. Indeed.
